FIDELITY TO GOSPEL WILL TAKE COURAGE, POPE TELLS COUPLES

VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 14, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI today pointed to the liturgy’s celebration of the cross, and Thursday’s feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, to invite newlyweds to be courageous in order to be faithful to the Gospel.

In his traditional closing of the general audience, held today in Paul VI Hall, the Pope noted the feast of the exaltation of the cross.

“May the cross of Christ and the example of Mary the Sorrowful Virgin illumine your lives, dear young people,” he said. “May they sustain you in daily trials, dear sick; and may they urge you on, dear newlyweds, to live a courageous family life consistent with the principles of the Gospel.”
